Never Previously Shown van Gogh Portrait Immortalised on Film in New Van Gogh Museum DVD
The DVD, presented as an educative documentary in five chapters, portrays Vincent van Gogh as artist and as a person.
AMSTERDAM.- The Van Gogh Museum presents the DVD Vincent van Gogh: A Life Devoted to Art. For the first time in the history of the Van Gogh Museum the museum has made a two-hour documentary on the life and work of Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890). The DVD paints a never previously shown portrait of the artist. For two years the museum worked on this production in collaboration with Capital Data and Bobcat Media.

The DVD, presented as an educative documentary in five chapters, portrays Vincent van Gogh as artist and as a person, documenting his childhood years in Brabant and his apprenticeship years in Belgium and Holland, his artistic coming of age in Paris, to the enervating highpoint of his artistic career in the south of France and his last months in Auvers-sur-Oise. Experts from the Van Gogh Museum shed light on Van Gogh's sources of inspiration and give an insight into his struggle to become a modern artist. The DVD features both his paintings and drawings and contains unique film footage of all the places in Europe where Van Gogh lived and worked. The 15-minute bonus DVD offers a view of the two largest Van Gogh collections in the world, the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam and the Kröller-Müller Museum in Otterlo, and features interviews with members of the artist's family who bear witness to the special ties they have to their distant uncle.

Vincent van Gogh: A Life Devoted to Art is aimed at anyone who is interested in Vincent van Gogh, and can be viewed in six languages (English, Dutch, French, German, Spanish and Italian). The DVD has been recorded entirely in 'high definition' (HD) which has resulted in an exceptional image quality. The DVD is not subject to regional limitations and will be distributed worldwide in PAL and NTSC. Priced at € 24.95, the DVD is available in the museum shop and online via www.vangoghmuseumshop.com and www.vangoghonline.nl.
