DENVER, CO.- Don’t miss your chance to see Inspiring Impressionism, on view at the Denver Art Museum (DAM) through May 25, 2008. Demand for this one-of-a-kind exhibition has been high, and the Museum is extending Impressionism and Museum Shop hours before the exhibition closes at the end of the month to accommodate last-minute visitors.

DAM will add Thursday and Saturday evenings until 9 p.m., beginning May 15 through May 24 to allow additional time slots for guests to spend an evening discovering the Impressionist and Old Master works on view. The Museum will continue its Friday evening hours until 10 p.m. on an ongoing basis.

Shedding new light on one of art history’s most important movements, Inspiring Impressionism features 100 paintings and works on paper drawn from nearly 70 museums and private collections. Denver is the only stop in the Rocky Mountain region for this incredible exhibition including works by Monet, Degas, Renoir, Raphael, El Greco, Velázquez and other Impressionist and Old Master painters. Organized by the DAM, in collaboration with the High Museum of Art, Atlanta, and the Seattle Art Museum, the national tour of Inspiring Impressionism is made possible by Northern Trust.

“This exhibition has generated extraordinary excitement among our visitors,” said Timothy J. Standring, Gates Foundation Curator of Painting and Sculpture. “The story of this relationship between the Impressionists and the Old Masters, while accepted by many art historians, has never been explored as an exhibition on such a broad scale and provides our visitors with an intriguing new way to think about the history of art.”

Tickets for Inspiring Impressionism are issued for a specific date and entry time. They can be purchased on-site at the Museum, online 24 hours a day at www.denverartmuseum.org, or by phone by calling 1-866-942-2787 (1-866-942-ARTS) from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.

Northern Trust is the National Tour Sponsor of Inspiring Impressionism. Additional support is provided by the National Endowment for the Humanities and an indemnity from the Federal Council on the Arts and Humanities. Local support is provided by the Samuel H. Kress Foundation, the Macy’s Foundation, the Gay & Lesbian Fund for Colorado, Friends of Painting and Sculpture, Ms. Betty Weiss, the citizens who support the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District, and the generous donors to the Annual Leadership Campaign. Promotional support is provided by The Denver Post, The Integer Group, and 5280 Magazine.
